ScieCom Info is a quarterly web-based trade journal on all aspects of Open Access, scholarly communication and knowledge exchange with relevance for the Nordic and Baltic region. Apart from standard papers, it also has a running news service. ScieCom Info developed out of the discontinued Swedish project Sciecom; a resource for first and foremost rights and rights management. The journal came into being as a Nordbib-funded project.
Ariadne Magazine is a quarterly web-based magazine on digital aspects of archives, libraries and museums. Its published by UKOLN, which in turn is funded by various sources most notably the Knowledge Exchange partner JISC. As such, Ariadne has a British bias, but reports on basically everything related to Open Access and scholarly communication. The archives are complete and go back to the magazines beginning in 1996.
D-Lib Magazine is a monthly web-based magazine on research and development in and of digital libraries and collections. Its now produced by the American not-for-profit organisation Corporation for National Research Initiatives in Virginia, USA, and supported by an alliance of almost exclusively American universities. As such it has a North American slant, but still international in scope. The archives are complete and go back to the magazines beginning in 1995.
The SPARC newsletter is edited by Peter Suber on behalf of SPARC. Oddly enough, the small print states that the views in the SPARC newsletter are those of Suber and not necessarily SPARC. However, the name change came about when SPARC took over Suber's Free Online Scholarship newsletter in order to support the initiative. The link provided here also makes it possible to navigate to various other SPARC resources such as their OA forum.
First Monday is an online journal about the Internet and published since 1996. It's subject scope is wide and international but does often include matters relating to scholarly communication, rights isuses and such. Its editorial board is heavily influenced by Western universities - especially American ones. In fact, the only person not representing an academic institution is a person from Google! However, First Monday offers a unique glimpse into everything Internet and some refreshing looks at established wisdom. |
